He found his locker and took his bag off his shoulder. He looked over at the guy next to him. The guy was wearing a plain green shirt with ripped jeans and destroyed red converse. He had sandy blonde hair that covered his face and was leaning into his locker.
Chase cleared his throat, "Hi." He didn't respond. He tried to talk louder, "Hi, I'm Chase." He wasn't sure, but he thought he could hear him snoring. "Um, are you asleep?" He lightly shook his shoulder.
The guy jolted awake, his head slamming into his locker, "Ahh!"
Chase jumped, "Sorry! How were you asleep?"
The guy looked over at him with wide, startled eyes, "I don't know... It happens to people sometimes. I'm Justice."

"Chase." He noticed his eyes were a bright electric green, except an eyepatch covered his right eye.
Randomly, the strap on Justice's black messenger bag ripped. He frowned down at it and picked it up. "That tends to happen sometimes."
Chase pulled some duct tape out of his bag, "Here, you can use this."
Justice smiled, "Thanks." The bell rang and Chase ran off, not wanting to be late of the first day. Justice frowned, "Wait! Your duct tape..."

...
Justice wandered around, he was already ten minutes late for class, but he couldn't find the classroom. He turned a corner and bumped into someone. Out of instinct, he reached out and caught them. He stared down at the girl in his arms, "Um, are you okay?"
She stood up and smiled, "Yeah, sorry, I was in a hurry. Do you know where room 45 is?"
He grinned, "If I did I wouldn't be standing here right now. Government?"
She nodded, "I think it's down this hall." He followed her down the hall, she glanced back at him, "I'm Sapph."
He smiled, "Justice is the name, getting lost is my game."
She laughed, "Okay?" They were silent as they walked, neither of them were really good in conversations and neither of them really wanted to say anything. Sapph stopped, "Here it is!"
The teacher, Ms. Darbus looked up as they walked in. She was a middle aged woman wearing clothes for an old lady. She frowned, "And what is your excuse?"
Sapph smiled, "A T-rex ate my homework?"

Justice shrugged, "An evil surgeon locked me in his basement?"
Ms. D. sighed, "Troublemakers? Okay. Sit in the back. And don't talk! Open your books! Pay attention! Everyone silent!"

Chase walked into the cafeteria and looked around, he tried to find an empty table in the chaos, not a fun place for an introvert. He sat down at a table where he thought he was alone when he noticed Justice was sitting a few chairs down, "Oh, hey!" He was happy to see a somewhat familiar face.
Justice looked up, but didn't reply. Chase opened the brown paper bag that contained his lunch from Jess. He pulled out a piece of paper with a neatly written note on it.

I hope you have a wonderful first day of school, darling.
Remember to wash your hands after you eat!
And do try to make some friends...
Love, Aunt Jessy
He smiled and tucked the note into his backpack. Justice raised an eyebrow, "Did your girlfriend pack your lunch or something?"
Chase felt his face grow warm, "Uh, yeah..." Justice gave him a suspicious look, but said nothing. Chase pulled out a sandwich that was cut into the shape of a cat's head and a little container with applesauce in it. He ate his sandwich happily then pulled out a baby spoon and started eating his applesauce.
Justice just stared at him. Chase glanced over at him, "Did you not bring a lunch?" Justice shook his head.

Okay, so maybe that was a lie... He had brought a lunch, but one of the jocks had stolen it from him and he didn't feel like trying to get it back, nor did he have any money to buy a lunch.
Chase watched everyone hustle about the cafeteria, he loved watching people. (Never socializing. Just watching.) He noticed a girl who looked awfully familiar walk in and head up to the ramp.
The ramp was an elevated part of the cafeteria where the "populars" sat. They even had two jocks "guard" the stairs so no "nerds" tried to go up there.
"Who's that?"
Justice looked up and shrugged, "I don't know, but she's out of your league."
Chase looked up, slightly surprised at his forwardness, "Well, yeah... I'm not interested, I just wondered, she looks familiar."
Sapph sat down across from them, "What are you doing here?"
Chase blinked, shocked to see her, "Um, Jess called me here, she is my aunt you know."
Sapph looked at Justice, "I'd recommend you not choose him to be your friend."
"That's okay, I didn't." he replied nonchalantly.
Chase frowned, "Um, anyway... Do you know who that girl is?"
She looked over at the girl he gestured to, "Um, I think her name is Bloom Morris, I have 3rd period English with her, but she's friends with Summer and Bailey. They were cheerleaders and supposedly 'popular' in middle school, and already seem to run the high school. So, I didn't really talk to her."
Chase frowned, "How do you know? You didn't go to Farono Middle..."
Sapph smiled, "I actually did for one year and I have my resources, thank you for your comment, Chase."
He rolled his eyes.
Justice frowned, watching the two of them, he didn't expect anyone to sit with him, nor did he really want anyone to.
Chase looked over at him, "So, what middle school did you go to?"
Justice looked up, "I went to middle school in France."
Sapph turned her attention from her lunch to them, "France?"
He nodded, "Yeah."
Chase smiled, "I spent some time in France, what part of France did you live in?"
Justice didn't look up, "Paris."
Chase smiled, "Me too, so how long did you live there."
Justice let out a sigh of discomfort, "A couple years."
In that way, he was like Zack, he hated talking to people and usually only said what was necessary, Zack was just to the extreme.
Chase smiled, "I lived there for about 3 years, I went to all of middle school there then moved here. You know, I'm really glad I met you we seem to have a lot in common."
Sapph let out a small laugh, sensing Justice's annoyance.
Chase got up, "Well, see you later, I'm gonna try to get some studying in before class, maybe practice for basketball tryouts."
Justice and Sapph sat in silence for a moment, occasionally glancing at each other, though neither of them knew what to say, nor really wanted to talk. About ten minutes before the bell Justice got up and left. She watched him go, intrigued by him.

Bloom smiled, "So, how do you know they'll let me on the squad?"
Bailey smiled, " 'Cause I'm the captain and I'm the one who let's you on, and why would I find any flaw in you?"
Summer leaned towards her, "Besides, I'm co-captain and if she were to disqualify you for some reason, I would convince her to let you on."

Summer leaned towards her, "Besides, I'm co-captain and if she were to disqualify you for some reason, I would convince her to let you on."
Didi looked over at them, "You're trying out for the cheer squad, Bloom?"
Bloom nodded, she'd always dreamed of being a cheerleader, but never found time for it in middle school.

Summer glanced behind her, "Check out that nerd over there!"
Bailey laughed, "He's totally checking you out."
Bloom glanced behind her and saw a guy with long brown hair, a purple beanie and a Metro Station t-shirt, "He's kinda cute..."

They made their way up to the ramp, Summer frowned, "He's way too nerdy!"
Bailey studied him, "I'd say more geeky, in a somewhat cute way... But, you're totally out of his league."
Summer nodded, "Way too high for him to reach."
Bailey studied him, "I'd say more geeky, in a somewhat cute way... But, you're totally out of his league."
Summer nodded, "Way too high for him to reach."
Bloom glanced back one more time and locked eyes on his dark brown eyes, "I guess so..."
They sat down and Bailey scooted closer to her, "So, what's up with you and Nick?"
Bloom forced herself back to reality and smiled, "Oh, um, nothing really... He's been pretty busy."
Summer frowned, "Like annoyingly busy or like just busy busy?"
Bloom shrugged, "Just busy..." However, he hadn't really talked to her in awhile.
Nick came in the cafeteria and gave the jocks guarding the ramp a sharp glare then went past and sat down next to Bloom, "Hey."

He frowned, "Sorry, no, my phone's broke."
She looked down, "Oh."
He frowned, "Sorry, no, my phone's broke."
She looked down, "Oh."
Summer stood up and got out her megaphone, "I'd like to make an announcement, everybody!" Some people silenced, but most people just continued their business. Summer stood up on the table, her sequined pink heels sparkled in their faces, "There will be a back to school party in the gym tonight! The dress code is casual and the doors open at 7:00!" She held her hand out and one of the jocks helped her down. She smiled at Bloom, "You better be there, anybody who's anybody will be." Bloom shrugged, "I guess so..."
...
In the hall, Sapph bumped into Bloom, "Sorry."
Bloom stopped her, "Hey! Sapph, right?" Sapph nodded, not sure how she knew that. Bloom smiled, "Are you going to the Back To School party?"
Sapph shook her head, "No, I'm not big into dressing up."

Bloom frowned, "It's casual, besides, it'll totally mark your school year if you don't go."
Sapph sighed, "I'll think about it."
