Legends of Ladonia: Chapter Eight

Chase slammed the book shut and threw it across the room.  "Chase?"  He turned around, startled, to see Bloom standing there.  "Are you okay?"  Chase blushed, "Yeah...  Studied too hard I guess," he laughed nervously.  Bloom frowned, worried.  He cleared his throat and stood up, "I was meaning to ask you...  Do you wanna.....maybe, um, go on a-  I mean....do you wanna hang out?"
"Hang out?  Sure."  He smiled, relieved, then remembered Bloom had a boyfriend.  Oh crap.  He blushed and shoved his hands in his pockets.  "Yeah.  Like friends.  Hang out."  Bloom nodded, "Yeah...?"  He stepped away from her nervously, "That's what friends do?"  Bloom looked even more worried, "Yeah...?  Are you sure you're okay?"  He nodded frantically, "Oh, yeah!  I'm great!  I'm better than great!"  He stepped backwards and bumped into the rail on the balcony in the library.
He grabbed onto it, trying to act like he meant for it to happen.  Bloom stepped forward, "Oh gosh!  I thought you were gonna fall off for a second!"  He felt his face get warmer, "Oh no, no, no...  Not me.  I'm a....acrobat."  Bloom blinked, "Acrobat?  Really?"  He nodded, wondering why he said that.
"Yupp.  Well, I used to be...  Not anymore....  I gotta go..."  He stepped backward, toppling over the railing.  Bloom screamed and ran down the stairs, "Chase!  Someone call an ambulance!"
Chase stood up, "I'm okay!  Used-to-be acrobat, remember?"  Bloom put her hand over her mouth, staring at him with wide eyes, "Yeah...  Are you sure!?  You fell an entire story!"  He nodded, "These bones are steel!"  He ran out, terrified.

  ...

Chase sighed and sat down on the couch. he almost screamed when his phone buzzed.  Oh no.  She texted me....

U never said when we were gonna hang out?

He waited five minutes, then answered:

Oh, lol, srry.  We can chill tonight if u wanna...?

Sure, we can....chill.  U sure ur feeling okay?

Yupp, better than ever!

He ran his fingers through his hair, he couldn't have been a bigger idiot.
They ended up meeting at the Hippie Cafe later, he smiled when he saw her walk up.  She was wearing a light blue sundress and had a couple daisies in her hair, which looked almost red in the sunlight.
"Hey," he said, smiling at her.  She smiled and sat down, "Hey!  Sorry I'm late, I went shopping with Bailey and lost track of time.  Oh, I'll have a water, thanks.  So, how are you?"
"I'm good.  Just been studying."  He realized that he was actually "hanging" with the popular crowd.  Or one of the popular crowd.  "And uh.....playing basketball."  That was true....sort of.  He did play basketball a lot, just not today.
She sipped her water, "You play basketball?"  He nodded, "Yeah, actually."  She smiled, "I've always loved basketball!  Do you play any other sports?"  Jocks play sports.  "Uh, yeah, I play football some," true, "and soccer," lie, "and baseball," true.  Okay.......lie.
"Cool!  So, how's Dylan Jeremy?"  Dylan Jeremy was Chase's younger brother, who happened to be in a higher grade than he.  "He's good.  He took his AP test and got post college, but he decided he'd start in 10th grade.  I think he wants to develop some 'social' skills."  Bloom blinked, "Wow.  How old is he now?"
"14.  Smartest 14 year old in the world, I believe," he laughed, "also most socially awkward."  Bloom laughed, "He was such a cute kid, I can't wait to see him again."  She had a sympathetic look suddenly, "So, have you two been doing okay?"  His dad had just passed away a couple months ago, "Yeah.  We're okay."  She frowned, not looking convinced.
"How about your family?"  She shrugged, "Dad got a promotion, so he's been gone.  Mom's been cooking as usual, um, Jen's still in Hollywood and Mike's moved out and owns a tackle shop.  Nothing interesting."  Bloom's dad invented a self repairing TV, so their family was really rich.  He owned a computer store and her mom stayed home and cooked the greatest concoctions you'll ever taste, (there's a legend they contain crushed up baby angels.  Yum.) Jennifer, her oldest sister, was always gone touring different countries and states, and Mike was her older brother who was a little too obsessed in fishing.
They talked for a while longer, then Bloom had to go due to her mom needing help frosting a 6 foot cake.  Like I said, she made amazing things happen.  So, Chase went home and played Mario Kart until his Aunt Jess *the principal, for you forgetful people* told him it was too late and he had school tomorrow.

...

She could hear crying somewhere in the distance, and there was the clatter of armored shoes against stone.  Wait...  Where was she?  She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings.  She was in a large stone corridor.  It was pitch black except for the dim fires of the torches that lined the walls.
She looked down, her brown hair was in curls down her back and she was wearing a ballgown.  Wait a minute.  This was the castle from her dreams.  Ever since she was a child she had strange dreams where she was a little girl in a beautiful, old castle that was being attacked.  She and what she came to think was her sister were almost killed by two men with swords and a little boy saved them.  He put them in some sort of portal and she and her sister were separated.
  But this was different.
She wasn't a little girl and there was no one attacking the castle.
She walked down the corridor, her heels clicking on the stone.  She followed the sounds of crying and footsteps until she came across a man.
He had black hair and black eyes, his face was pale and he looked worried.  "Excuse me," she said, he ran past her as though he didn't hear.  She frowned, running after him.  He pushed open a door and hurried in there, "Stella!  Stella!  Are you hurt!?"  She peered in through the doorway and saw a woman with long blonde hair that glowed like sunlight.  She recognized her as one of the people that was killed in her dream.  She was killed by one of the men that attacked her and her sister.
The woman, Stella, looked up, tears streaming down her face.  Just then, she noticed there were more people in the room.  She gasped when she saw the two men that had attacked her in her dream.  There was also a woman who appeared to be Stella's twin.
The man knelt down in front of Stella and took her hands, "What's going on?"  She wrapped her arms around his neck and cried for a moment, then quickly wiped her tears and put on a strong face, "Their attacking tomorrow night at the ball...  David got a message from King Jonathan, he told us to check our invitations because someone important didn't get invited.  He also said to be prepared for war.  What are we going to do!?  Even if we were prepared the Ginia army will defeat us without fail.  And it was the girls first ball.  Oh, Damian, the kingdom will be concurred!"
Damian brushed away her tears, "We'll have to fight."  One of the men, he had white hair and red eyes, stepped forward, "Not if the kingdom was already concurred by some stronger than Ginia."  Damian frowned, "What are you talking about, David?"  David looked at the other man, "If we send the children to safety and 'kill' the king and queen-"
"Ginia will consider it an open invitation!" Damian said, frowning.  The other woman stood up, "I'll get the children to somewhere safe, it's best if they leave the kingdom tonight."  Stella held out her had to stop her, "Luna, wait!  They would expect us to do something of the sort.  It's not safe for anyone to leave the kingdom.  Take our son to your house and send him somewhere safe, it can't be a world with magic otherwise they'd be able to find him."
Luna frowned, "But there is only one world without magic."  Stella nodded, "Earth.  I have acquaintances there, send the children there."  She went over to a desk and started writing, a moment later she handed a paper to Luna, "Send this message with them.  They'll know what to do until we come back for them."
Every was blurry suddenly, and she was standing in a room full of people.  This was the dream she had every other night.  She turned to see the girl next to her who she came to know as her sister.  The little blonde girl smiled at her and grabbed her hands, "Come on, Bloom!  It's our first ball, let's dance!"  They danced for a moment, then someone screamed.  She turned to see a woman, Stella, on her knees, and a man....David?  With a sword to her neck, "Surrender, Queen Stella, the kingdom is ours."  Stella tried to get up, but the blade restricted her, "You'll never earn of the respect of the people."  He laughed, "I don't need their respect, I need their fear."
She closed her eyes when the sword came down, she heard the thud and the terrible splash of blood.  Screams broke out everywhere.  Where were all the knights?  She felt a tug on her arm and looked at her sister, "Hurry!  We can sneak out through here."
They ran through the corridor, but where intercepted by David and the other man.  David laughed, "Well, well, well, the two princesses.  What a shame."  They screamed and ran away, laughter and footsteps behind them.  She crawled into a passage and put a little distance between them.
A little boy grabbed their arms and stopped them, "Wait!  You'll never make, through here!"  They obeyed and ran into the portal.  She held onto her sisters hand tightly.  "NO!" she screamed as their hands were wrenched apart.  She flew through swirling lights, and then it all turned black.
She could here someone's heart beating.  Wait.  That was hers.  What was happening?  She normally woke up now...  She tried to move, but all she could see was darkness.  She wiped sweat from her forehead, she was burning up.  "Bloom," a distant voice called.  She squinted, trying to make sense of things, but saw nothing, "Bloom.  Listen to me carefully."  It was a male voice, he sounded young, not much older than her, "You need to wake up."
  "Wake up?  I'm asleep...."
"You're asleep, and you're in danger.  You need to wake up."
Wake up...  I need to wake up...
