The Legends of Ladonia: Chapter Five

Justice got out of the hospital a couple days later and him and Sapph were now walking along side the pond behind the school.  Sapph shoved her hands in her pockets, "I'm sorry I got so mad at you..."  Justice shrugged, "It's fine."
She glanced at him, he was so mysterious and intriguing.  They were silent for a few minutes, then she glanced at him, "So, where'd you and Zack move here from?"  Justice glanced at her, but he'd never make eye contact, "Japan."
"Really?"  He nodded, studying his shoes, he got so nervous in social situations.  There were a couple more minutes of silence...  "So, is Zack your older brother?"  She thought she saw him laugh slightly, "Not exactly, we're twins."
"Oh."  He grinned slightly, "That's most people's reactions."  Sapph played with the zipper on her hoodie, she didn't exactly know how they came to be alone here, but it was kind of awkward and she didn't do very good in social situations either.
Justice was tapping his fingers on his jeans impatiently, "I got homework...and stuff..."  She nodded, "Yeah...me too...."  He shoved his hands in his jacket pockets, "So....I'm gonna...get to the dorm..."  She nodded again, "Yeah....me too...."
They hurried back to the dorm and went into their rooms.

...

Sapph walked down the stairs and saw Zack sitting at a desk writing in two different notebooks at the same time.  "Um, hi."  He made a muttering sound, which sounded like him saying "hello" without actually opening his mouth.
She sat down on the couch and watched him, she didn't really see the resemblance between him and Justice.  Justice had sandy blonde hair and electric green eyes and Zack had red hair and hazel eyes, Justice was rather tan and Zack looked as though his skin hadn't seen the light of day in far too long.
Finally, he set down his pencil and looked up at her, "WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwgthy are you staring at me?"  She frowned, "Sorry, I was just thinking..."  He stood up, got his briefcase that always sat next to the door and headed out.
She heard a cat meow and glanced next to her to see a black cat had jumped onto the couch.  She stared at it, it was a completely ordinary black cat except for one thing.
  It had five legs.
Justice came down the stairs, "Kuro, no."  He picked the cat up before she clawed her.  Sapph frowned, "Where did you get a five legged cat?"  Justice grinned slightly, "I found her at an oddity store.  Well...  She found me."  Sapph smiled, she did like cats, but something about Kuro made her uncomfortable.  Kuro walked up Justice's arm and stood on his shoulders.
Sapph didn't know why he was still standing there he wasn't saying anything.
He was staring at the wall, but she could see his mind was clearly somewhere else.  She waved her hand in front of his face, "Justice?  You okay?"
He looked up and at and nodded, "Yeah, sorry..."  She smiled, "It's fine...  You sure you're okay?"  He nodded and took Kuro and set her down on the couch, "Um, I'm gonna go...  See you later..."  Sapph nodded and waved slightly, watching him go.

...

Sapph was walking around the streets when she felt like someone was watching her.  She turned around to see Jake was following her.  "Jake, stop following me."  He frowned, "I thought we made up?"  She crossed her arms, glaring back at him, "No.  We're not friends, and I don't plan on us ever being friends again."
He shrugged, "Whatever.  You're not worth my time anyway."  She rolled her eyes, "And you're not worth me caring."  He laughed, "Answer one question though."  Sapph shrugged, "Why not."
"How's Mrs. S.?"  Sapph stopped walking and turned to face him, "Jess?  Why do you care?"  Jake shrugged, "Grew up with the woman, can I not be interested?"  She shrugged, "I don't know.  Just leave me alone."  Jake smiled at waved at her as she walked off.  "Have a nice day, Sapph."
He circled around the block and stopped outside of FHS.  He walked up to the doors, but stopped when he saw her.
He hadn't seen Sabrina Nolan since...  Well, that's another story for another time...  But she looked as beautiful as ever.  Her long brown hair was flowing behind her in the wind and her violet eyes sparkled in the sunlight.
He thought back to when he'd first met her, even though she was much younger then, she had a radiance about her that was just indescribable...  The moment he first laid eyes on her, he was madly in love her.  So desperately in love that he little thought about her every second after that moment.  And he still thought about her all the time.
Why didn't he make a move?
Well...  He was not only a massive idiot, but he'd broken so many girls hearts and ruined so many lives because he was a terrible 'lover,' and he didn't want to ever break her heart.  So he vowed he wouldn't.  And to keep his promise he knew he had to stay away from her.
So, he did.  He might sneak a conversation in every once in a while, but he was happy to just watch her.

...

Sapph knocked on Justice's door, he opened the door and tried to smile, "Hi."  She shoved her hands in her pockets, "Um, here, this was on the front step for you."  She handed him the note she had found.  He read it and frowned, "It's from Bloom."
Sapph smiled, "So...  You're Justice Matthews?  Like the Justice Matthews that was in The Gang with me, Bloom and Chase."  He smiled slightly, but a little more real this time, "Yeah.  And I take it you're that Sapph Jones."  Sapph nodded, laughing slightly.
"Of course," she said grinning, "Bloom is the making the move to get us back together."  He shoved his hands in his pockets, he didn't really want to go.  "Are you going?"  Sapph frowned, "This is Bloom and Chase.  Our old best friends."  He looked to the side, "It's been so long."  Sapph grabbed his arm, "Too long.  Come on!  You know she'll strangle us if we don't show up!"
Bloom was standing outside the Hippie Cafe, their old hangout.  Chase walked up and smiled when he saw it, "Well, this brings back memories..."  Bloom beamed, "I'm so glad you guys actually came!  Ever since I realized it was you guys, I've been trying to find a way to get us all together again."
They sat awkwardly for a little while, but Bloom had a way of making people talk and as soon as Chase warmed up, Sapph started to warm up to them.  Justice finally broke when he burped really loudly and him and Chase got into a burping contest.  Things were just like old times, it was great.
Bloom looked around the table, "So, what has everyone been up to?"  Chase shrugged, "Nothing really."  Bloom frowned, "It's been like 2 years and you've done NOTHING!?"  He shrugged.
They laughed because the only one who said they did some in 2 years was Bloom.  Sapph glanced at Justice, he'd opened up some and was slightly more comfortable with them, but he was still slightly distant.
She thought back to when they were little and his hair was really curly, it was still slightly wavy.  She smiled slightly thinking about the crazy, outgoing little boy that she may have had a crush on.  He would open up to her again someday.  She was sure of it.
